How does everyone like the new style journal and more to the point have you ever seen the programme, its me or the dog?  I'm not sure the American contingent would have but what about those in the UK?  Her name is Victoria Stillwell and she is basically a dog behaviourist.  She goes into people's homes to see what kind of problems people are having with their dogs, offers suggestions on how to put it right, shows them how its done and then returns a few weeks later to see how they are getting on.  I haven't seen her fail yet...

I met her once too at Crufts.  Here's a pic...

and here's another one of me in the actual ring at Crufts just for good measure :P

The Dog Whisperer

In the States we have Cesar Millan the "dog whisperer." He also goes to different houses to help people with their problem dogs. I love his show! Although it was much better when it first started b/c he dealt with all types of dogs but lately it seems like the "meaner" dogs get better ratings so now he mostly deals with large, very aggressive dogs (such as pits and rotts -- which are not inherently dangerous but when owners mis-treat them or don't train them properly there can be problems) which I think is too bad b/c small dogs are can be very aggressive as well if they are not properly socialized...but I guess in the end ratings always win. The great thing about him though is that he also rescues dogs and rehabilitates them so that they can be adopted. He is a big fan of the mutt. (Mutts Rule!) :) Sorry, that just kind of turned into a wonk!

Re: The Dog Whisperer

I totally agree with you about the breeds that get a reputation for being bad like Rotties etc. I hate it when people say oh I wouldnt get one of those, they are aggressive. Some Jack Rusells I know are little shits but just because they are ankle height, they never make the papers for being aggressive or anything...Grrrr

Show sounds a lot like Its me or the Dog too :)

Re: The Dog Whisperer

I completely agree, in fact is it very interesting how statistics show that more people are bitten by smaller dogs then by large dogs but no one seems to report on that. I am actually studying Animal Law (as part of my Environmental Law specialization) and it is shocking the way so called “aggressive” dogs are treated compared to “ankle biters” by the courts and how it is actually the owners that should be punished not the dogs and yet…GRRRR very frustrating.

My best friend has the biggest Rott I have ever seen! She is enormous but at the same time the sweetest dog I have ever met. The only thing she wants to do is be loved. She looks scary as hell but wooooo-weeee is she a lover! It’s just very sad that she gets a bad rap because other dog owners are irresponsible.

Re: The Dog Whisperer

I dont know if you have heard but Rotties have a particularly bad reputation over here in the UK at the moment, there have been attacks on small children and even a fatality but these dogs were actually trained guard dogs so it begs the question, where were the parents when their child was being mauled?

Re: The Dog Whisperer

Cesar Millan doesn't even begin to compare to other dog training shows. His methods are considered completely outdated and disproven by the top behaviorists and trainers in the US. There've been so many articles regarding him and his messed up methods, I have a hard time believing people still think they work long term.
